Listen to the Chairman of Ulupure Explain the Ulupure Dream

"Ulupure" and "Ulupure Dream" were the two phrases most frequently used by Chairman Zhan in his 2016 company annual meeting speech. These two phrases became buzzwords among Ulupure employees this year. On the occasion of the launch of *Ulupure Vision*, our reporter interviewed Chairman and General Manager Zhan Wei to hear his analysis of how these buzzwords have evolved into concrete actions by Ulupure employees.

Reporter: Mr. Zhan, hello! We feel your joy at the launch of *Ulupure Vision* today. You are the first leader to be interviewed by *Ulupure Vision*, and we would like to ask you to say a few words.

Chairman Zhan: We have been planning *Ulupure Vision* for a long time, and its launch today is a joyous occasion. Personally, I am also more willing to share some of my views with all Ulupure employees through this medium.

Reporter: What was your motivation for founding Ulupure?

Chairman Zhan: As an entrepreneur, I aspire to create a leading brand in the industry. That's why I chose the membrane water treatment industry. 

Reporter: What stage of development do you think Ulupure is currently in?

Mr. Zhan: Since its inception, Ulupure has gone through four stages: startup, market focus, foundation building, and steady development.

Reporter: Over the past 13 years, Ulupure has broken through barriers and moved steadily forward, thanks to technological innovation. Could you talk about the relevant achievements?

Mr. Zhan: Technology and innovation are the foundation of development. We are a technology company; only by continuously developing new technologies and processes can we lead the industry in new directions. Currently, Ulupure has been granted 117 patents, and we will continue to increase our investment in technology.

Reporter: At the annual meeting, you repeatedly mentioned "Big Ulupure" and the "Ulupure Dream." What does "Big" mean in "Big Ulupure"?

Mr. Zhan: "Big" has two meanings. First, the company must prioritize strength (each business unit is required to be among the top three in its local market); second, it must grow through a flexible organizational structure (each business unit operates as a self-financing, independently accounted business unit).

Reporter: With the national "Water Ten Measures" strategic policy in place, Ulupure is facing unprecedented development opportunities. Could you elaborate on Ulupure's grand blueprint for the next five years?

General Manager Zhan: Ulupure Water Group is already taking shape. We have obtained land use quotas from the management committee for our new factory construction, and our dream of owning our own office building and factory will soon be realized. The business unit (subsidiary) operating model, where each business unit operates independently with its own profit and loss, has built Ulupure's grand framework. Our four major subsidiaries—Ulupure Ultrapure, Ulupure Environmental Protection, Ulupure Instruments, and Ulupure Engineering—along with Ulupure marketing companies in Beijing, Chengdu, Xi'an, and other locations, are growing rapidly. Ulupure Water's future will be even brighter!

Reporter: There's a saying in the industry that corporate culture is the boss's culture. What's your view on Ulupure's corporate culture?

Mr. Zhan: The cornerstone of corporate culture has two aspects: first, a standardized company management system (including various regulations, rules, and standards); second, the exemplary role of management by setting a good example.

Reporter: At the summit, you proposed building 100 Ulupure Charity Libraries for impoverished rural primary schools across the country. Your sincerity and earnestness resonated with the national distributors present. I'd like to know how you came up with the idea of building these libraries? Is it related to your personal love of reading?

Mr. Zhan: As the saying goes, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." I've always firmly believed that knowledge changes destiny. I personally love books, and the joy of immersing myself in them is unparalleled. I firmly believe that people who love reading have a richer inner world and are more likely to find happiness than those who don't. Rural children are far removed from modern life, and most are left-behind children, lacking family and social care. Simple material assistance only provides fleeting satisfaction; encouraging them to read more and read good books, and establishing a correct outlook on life, is far more important. Ulupure has already built three Ulupure Charity Libraries in Xuanhan and Wanyuan, Dazhou City, in our province. I hope to build 100 before I retire.

Reporter: Human Resources data shows that over 80% of the company's employees have been with the company for more than five years. Even in the production workshop, the turnover rate of frontline employees is extremely low. In other words, the company's workforce is more stable than that of typical manufacturing companies. What are your thoughts on this?

General Manager Zhan: The water treatment industry is a labor- and technology-intensive industry, and human resources are the most important resource. Ulupure's development is inseparable from the contributions of its employees. We thank our employees for sharing both the good times and the bad with Ulupure for so many years. Our core management team will cherish this and continue to work hard, leading all employees to create a bright future!
