Application of Ultrapure Water in Blood Lead Testing

Table of Content [Hide]

Blood lead testing, as a crucial means of assessing lead exposure levels in the human body, plays an irreplaceable role in areas such as children's health monitoring and occupational health protection. During the testing process, the use of pure water and ultrapure water directly affects the accuracy and reliability of the results, making it a core element in ensuring testing quality.

Since lead is a trace element, the testing process requires extremely high water purity. Ultrapure water, with a resistivity exceeding 18.2 MΩ·cm, effectively avoids interference from contaminants in the water. In reagent preparation stages, such as the dilution of lead standard solutions and the preparation of colorimetric reagents, ultrapure water should be used to ensure the accuracy of reagent concentrations. In the instrumental analysis stage, ultrapure water is also required for the current carrying and cleaning solutions of precision equipment such as atomic absorption spectrometers and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers to prevent impurities in the water from clogging instrument tubing or affecting the detection signal.

To ensure the accuracy of blood lead testing, the quality control of ultrapure water is crucial. Laboratories need to regularly monitor water quality, verifying water quality indicators using equipment such as resistivity meters to ensure that it meets testing requirements. At the same time, the choice of water storage containers should not be overlooked. Containers made of inert materials (such as polyethylene) should be used and cleaned and disinfected regularly to avoid secondary pollution.
