How to Regenerate the EDI Module in an Ultrapure Water System

    After a period of operation, the internal channels of the EDI module in an ultrapure water system may become clogged. This is mainly due to the presence of a high solute content in the EDI feed water, leading to salt precipitation in the concentrate chamber. In such cases, we can clean the EDI module using EDI chemical cleaning followed by EDI regeneration to restore its original technical characteristics. So, how is the EDI module regenerated in an ultrapure water system?


    There are two scenarios for EDI regeneration: a standard scenario and a special scenario.


    Standard Scenario


    1. Confirm that there are no chemical residues remaining in the EDI module.


    2. Establish a closed-loop self-circulating pipeline in the system.


    3. Adjust all flow rates and pressures according to normal operating conditions.


    4. Power on the EDI, gradually increasing the current from 2A (maximum not exceeding 4A).


    5. Continue until the resistivity of the product water reaches or exceeds the process requirement of 18MΩ. 


    II. Special Circumstances

    1. For systems with a self-circulating pipeline, regeneration can be performed according to the following steps:


    2. Confirm that there are no chemical residues in the EDI module;


    3. Adjust each flow valve to 70% of the normal operating flow rate;


    4. Adjust each pressure and pressure difference according to the operating specifications;


    5. Power on the EDI, gradually increasing the current from 2A (maximum not exceeding 4A);


    6. Continue until the resistivity of the produced water meets or exceeds the process requirements of 18MΩ;
