Activated carbon filters work through a carbon bed. The activated carbon particles that make up the carbon bed have numerous micropores and a large specific surface area, giving them a strong physical adsorption capacity. As water passes through the carbon bed, organic pollutants in the water are effectively adsorbed by the activated carbon. Furthermore, the non-crystalline portions of the activated carbon surface contain oxygen-containing functional groups, which further enhance the adsorption of organic pollutants from the water passing through the carbon bed. Activated carbon filters are a commonly used water treatment device. As a pretreatment step in water treatment desalination systems, they effectively ensure the service life of downstream equipment, improve effluent quality, and prevent contamination, especially preventing free residual oxygen poisoning of downstream reverse osmosis membranes and ion exchange resins.
Activated carbon filters are mainly used to remove organic matter, odor, color, heavy metal ions, and residual chlorine (Cl2) from water. They serve as a pretreatment for reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, and ion exchangers, providing excellent protection for these devices.
