Advantages of EDI

EDI can replace existing mixed-bed systems in traditional water treatment systems, continuously and stably producing high-purity water. The biggest advantage of EDI is that it does not require chemical regeneration, thus eliminating the need for chemical regeneration reagent storage tanks and corresponding neutralization tanks. Furthermore, it eliminates the need for the collection, storage, and treatment of harmful chemical wastewater, greatly simplifying the system.

RO systems reduce the requirements for large equipment rooms, and recent EDI technology completely eliminates this requirement. Since EDI systems only require a ceiling height of no more than 18 feet (5.49 meters), meaning there are no tall tanks in typical equipment rooms, the lack of special height requirements is extremely important when rapid installation and commissioning of complete systems is required.

Another advantage is that the concentrate discharged from EDI contains only impurities from the influent. This water is typically of better quality than the influent from pretreatment systems, so the concentrate can be directly discharged to the RO inlet, effectively eliminating wastewater discharge. In contrast, mixed-bed regeneration is a one-time process. Because chemical agents are used to regenerate the resin bed, the wastewater contains 3-4 times more waste ions than typical EDI concentrate. This wastewater is usually not recycled into the pretreatment system but discharged into the wastewater neutralization tank.

RO-EDI operates continuously, producing stable water quality. Unlike mixed-bed systems, it does not experience effluent quality issues due to ion leakage at the beginning and end of each regeneration cycle. This continuous operation also simplifies management, eliminating the need for personnel and procedures associated with the regeneration process.
