EDI (Electro-Deionization) System Working Principle

    High-purity water is crucial for many industrial and commercial projects, such as the semiconductor manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries. Previously, these industries used ion exchange to obtain purified water. However, membrane systems and membrane treatment processes are becoming increasingly popular as alternatives to pretreatment or ion exchange systems. Membrane systems, such as electrodialysis (EDI), can effectively remove minerals and operate continuously. Furthermore, membrane treatment processes are mechanically much simpler than ion exchange systems, eliminating the need for acid/alkali regeneration and wastewater neutralization. EDI is one of the fastest-growing businesses in membrane treatment. EDI is non-reverse electrodialysis (ED) with a special tank containing a mixed-bed ion exchange resin. EDI is primarily used to produce 8-17 megohms of purified water from water sources with a total dissolved solids (TDS) of 1-20 mg/L.
