EDI Technology Overview

Packed-bed electrodialysis, also known as electrodeionization (EDI), utilizes the polarization phenomenon during electrodialysis to electrochemically regenerate ion-exchange packed beds. It combines the advantages of both electrodialysis and ion exchange while overcoming their drawbacks. EDI technology integrates two mature water treatment technologies—electrodialysis and ion exchange—and is referred to as packed-bed electrodialysis or electrodeionization technology in my country. It primarily replaces traditional mixed-bed ion exchange for producing high-purity water. This technology has been widely adopted in the electronics, power, and chemical industries abroad for high-purity water production. It is anticipated that this water treatment product will become the mainstream equipment in high-purity water production projects this century. The application of this technology and related technologies will bring about fundamental changes to existing water treatment technologies, resulting in better environmental and economic benefits.
