What Is Quartz Sand, And What Are Its Uses?

Table of Content [Hide]

    I. Quartz stone has a silica content of 98.5% or higher; silica stone with a silica content below 98.5% is called silica.

II. Quartz stone, after being crushed, is called quartz sand. Quartz sand is classified into refined, semi-refined, and ordinary types.

III. Characteristics: Quartz has a hardness of 7, a specific gravity of 2.65, and its color ranges from milky white, pale yellow, brown, and gray. Quartz has high refractory properties and a melting point of 1730 degrees Celsius.

IV. Uses: Used in the manufacture of glass, refractory materials, ferrosilicon smelting, metallurgical flux, ceramics, abrasive materials, and casting. In construction, quartz's strong resistance to acidic media corrosion is used to produce acid-resistant concrete and acid-resistant mortar.

    V. Silica, as a core raw material for silicon, plays an irreplaceable and fundamental role in the production and supply of silicon raw materials. Its unique physical and chemical properties make it play a crucial role in aviation, aerospace, electronics, machinery, and today's rapidly developing IT industry. In particular, its inherent molecular chain structure, crystal shape, and lattice variation laws give it high temperature resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, high insulation, corrosion resistance, piezoelectric effect, resonance effect, and unique optical properties, making it increasingly important in many high-tech products. For example, core technology products in the IT industry—computer chips, optical fibers, resonators in the electronics industry, new electric light sources, highly insulating sealing materials, aerospace instruments, military technology products, special optical glass, chemical analysis instruments, etc., all rely on these basic raw materials.
