On the morning of August 22nd, the inaugural "Ulupure Cup" Sichuan-Chongqing Entrepreneurs Go Friendship Tournament commenced at the Ulupure Go Museum. Nie Weiping, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Go Association and a renowned Go master; Gong Jinhua, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Go Association, Honorary Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Chess Association, and Chairman of the Chengdu Chess Association; Ji Guocai, Deputy Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Pidu District, Chengdu; and Zhan Wei, Chairman of the Chengdu Ulupure Group, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.


It is understood that this tournament was hosted by the Ulupure Group, and co-organized by the Chongqing Kanji Go Club, the Chengdu Tang Xiaohong Go Friends Association, and the Pidu District Go Association of Chengdu. The participating teams were: the Chongqing team, led by Wang Jun, 4-dan and Chairman of the Chongqing Kanji Go Club, with 10 members; and the Sichuan team, led by Li Liang, 5-dan and Head Coach of the Sichuan Provincial Go Team, with 9 members. All participants were well-known entrepreneurs from Sichuan and Chongqing.

At the competition venue, entrepreneurs sat facing each other on the Go board, exchanging ideas and experiencing the unique charm of the game through the interplay of black and white stones, gaining insights into the connection between the principles of Go and business.

The competition adopted a 75-minute time limit, with a loss for exceeding the time limit. The competition consisted of two rounds, each consisting of 8-9 individual matches plus 1 two-player team match. Each game's winner received 2 points, and the loser received 0 points. In the event of a draw, each player received 1 point. The team with the highest combined score from both rounds won. The winner received a prize of 10,000 yuan, the loser 5,000 yuan, and in case of a draw, each player received 8,888 yuan.

After two rounds of intense competition, the Sichuan team emerged victorious.

This competition aimed to promote excellent traditional Chinese culture, jointly build a dual-city Go development hub in Sichuan and Chongqing, and strengthen resource sharing among entrepreneurs from both regions.
Zhan Wei, Chairman of the Ulupure Group, stated, “Most of us in this generation learned Go under the influence of ‘Nie Weiping.’ We are deeply grateful to have Mr. Nie Weiping participate in this competition. Go and family are equally important in my life, and the Ulupure Cup Go Tournament will be an ongoing Go event.”


Mr. Nie Weiping expressed his affirmation and support for entrepreneurs organizing Go competitions. He hopes that while promoting Chinese culture, entrepreneurs will apply Go strategies and tactics to their business development, wishing their companies even greater success, and encouraging them to dedicate more energy and capital to supporting Go.
