The Smart Laboratory Will Be the Ultimate Goal of the Development of All Types of Laboratories

[Introduction] A "smart laboratory" integrates human wisdom and intelligent technology into all aspects of laboratory design, construction, operation, management, and development, enabling the laboratory to play its role in providing technical support in relevant fields. Human wisdom here includes not only humanity's tremendous success in natural science and technology but also exploration and practice in laboratory management system innovation. The smart laboratory will be the ultimate goal of all types of laboratory development.

With social progress, scientific and technological development, and the continuous expansion of the testing market, smart laboratories are an inevitable trend. In August 2017, the "2017 Sino-German Smart Laboratory Construction and Development Summit Forum" was successfully held in Panjin. This forum aimed to create an international platform for scientific and technological exchange, creating value for more research institutions, enterprises, and users, and contributing to the development of smart laboratories and "Made in China 2025" in China.

Currently, there is no precise definition of a "smart laboratory" internationally. From some perspectives, a laboratory that integrates human wisdom and intelligent technology into all aspects of laboratory design, construction, operation, management, and development, enabling the laboratory to play its role in providing technical support in relevant fields, should be considered a "smart laboratory." Human wisdom here encompasses not only humanity's tremendous successes in natural science and technology, but also the exploration and practice of innovation in laboratory management systems and mechanisms. The smart laboratory will be the ultimate goal of the development of all types of laboratories.

As far as I know, the construction of laboratories in various testing and inspection fields is currently moving towards intelligentization, introducing artificial intelligence, digitalization, networking, and cutting-edge scientific technologies. Smart laboratories will also make new and greater contributions to safeguarding human health, environmental safety, and promoting economic and social development.
