Who Is He, A Fake or the Real Deal?

An article published on page 6 of the Chengdu Business Daily on April 14, 2014, told the story of a Chengdu resident who purchased two washing machines from a well-known appliance store. Shortly after delivery, an "installer" dressed in the store's uniform contacted him, came to install the machines, and recommended additional installation accessories worth 840 yuan. Less than 20 hours after installation and testing, due to improper installation and the use of substandard parts, the washing machine's inlet hose detached from the newly installed angle valve, causing severe flooding in his home and the stairwells from the 1st to 8th floors of his building, malfunctioning both elevators.

In subsequent negotiations with the store, the buyer discovered that the store's system showed the goods had been delivered but no installer had been dispatched, and the store did not have such an installer. He also learned that the parts recommended by the installer were unreliable. The store stated that they had previously reported similar cases of unscrupulous individuals impersonating store employees to sell goods to customers to the police. So far, this matter remains a mystery, but the question that baffles the buyer is how this imposter installer knew his name, home address, and phone number. Who is he really?

This incident reminds me of something that happened to my company not long ago. A while ago, someone claiming to be our after-sales engineer approached one of our customers. After pretending to inspect the equipment, he told the customer that a batch of consumables needed to be replaced. The customer, believing him to be a company employee, trusted him and spent nearly ten thousand yuan to buy the replacement consumables. Afterwards, the customer discovered that the replaced consumables were defective and ridiculously overpriced. He wrote to us to inquire, only then realizing that we had been impersonated by criminals, and the customer had suffered an unexplained loss. Not only did they impersonate our company to deceive customers, but they even went so far as to use a name that skirted the edge of legality. Our product brand is "Ulupure," and our company is "Sichuan Ulupure Ultrapure Technology Co., Ltd.", while they registered a company called "Chengdu Ulupure Instrument Equipment Co., Ltd." This kind of behavior is truly appalling. These people are willing to abandon all sense of shame for petty profits, and they probably don't care about the conscience they face.

In today's society, not only are counterfeit and shoddy goods harmful, but those who impersonate the genuine article are even more unscrupulous, causing immense harm. They exploit consumers' kindness and trust, providing substandard services, arbitrarily selling counterfeit and shoddy goods at inflated prices, and then disappearing without a trace, leaving behind a mess. This allows unsuspecting consumers to direct their anger and frustration towards the genuine article. Admittedly, in today's consumer society, competition is complex and fierce, but there should always be some basic principles and moral bottom lines to follow. The necessary "rules of the game" must still exist. I advise these people to stop as soon as possible, otherwise they will inevitably be scorned by society. "It's not that retribution won't come, it's just that the time hasn't arrived yet." By then, it will be too late to regret!
