Ultrapure Water Equipment for the Battery Industry

Brief Introduction

This system boasts low construction cost and readily available consumables.

Overview of Ultrapure Water for the Battery Industry

Ultrapure water for the battery industry includes pure water for storage battery production, lithium battery production, solar cell production, and battery grid plate production. The preparation of electrolytes in batteries places extremely stringent requirements on the purity of the water, typically requiring a conductivity of 0.1 μS/cm (resistance of 10 megohms) or higher. Traditionally, ultrapure water for batteries is prepared using cation and anion exchange resin equipment. The disadvantage of this process is that the resin requires frequent regeneration after prolonged operation. As membrane separation technology continues to mature, reverse osmosis (RO) filtration is now commonly employed, or a process integrating primary RO with ion exchange mixed bed (or electrodeionization, EDI) to produce ultrapure water.

Process Introduction

RO technology is a highly efficient, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly technology primarily used in pure water production and seawater desalination. RO is a membrane separation and filtration technology powered by pressure difference, which rigorously separates H2O from impurities in the source water, such as inorganic salts, heavy metal ions, organic matter, colloids, bacteria, and viruses.

EDI is an advanced technology that integrates electrodialysis and ion exchange. The system utilizes an electromagnetic field to selectively permeate anions and cations through anion and cation exchange membranes, and the ion exchange resin to exchange ions. Under the influence of a DC electric field, ions migrate directionally, achieving deep desalination of water. The system enables continuous automatic regeneration of the resin without downtime for acid and alkali regeneration, ensuring uninterrupted production of ultrapure water.

Ion exchange is a traditional technology for producing ultrapure water. The principle of ion exchange is that, under certain conditions, certain ions possessed by the ion exchanger (resin) exchange with ions of the same charge in the water to be treated, achieving functions such as softening, dealkalization, and desalination. Used for deep desalination, the product water resistivity can reach 18 MΩ·cm.

Ion Exchange Method in Pure Water Treatment

Dual-stage reverse osmosis connects two reverse osmosis units in series, with the permeate from the First-Stage Reverse Osmosis serving as the feed water for the second-stage system. Because the permeate from the First-Stage Reverse Osmosis is far superior to tap water, the permeate from the second-stage reverse osmosis system is of even better quality than that from a single-stage RO system, with lower levels of ions, organic matter, and pyrogens.
