Application of Ultrafiltration Technology in Ultrapure Water Equipment

    Ultrafiltration technology is a relatively mature technology in water treatment. It is widely used in ultrapure water equipment. Ultrafiltration is a membrane separation process that filters water under external pressure. Colloidal substances and relatively high molecular weight substances in the water are filtered out, thus purifying the water. When water passes through an ultrafiltration membrane, most of the colloidal silica in the water can be removed, along with a large amount of organic matter.


    In ultrafiltration technology, the ultrafiltration membrane is the most important component. Based on the difference in driving force, we classify it into reverse osmosis membrane filtration, ultrafiltration membrane filtration, and microporous membrane filtration. Ultrafiltration membranes are mostly made of acetate fiber or similar polymer materials, such as cellulose derivatives, polysulfone, polyacrylonitrile, polyamide, and polycarbonate. Ultrafiltration membrane filtration uses pressure difference as the driving force for membrane filtration. It is usually distinguished by the size of the smallest particle that the membrane can block. Ultrafiltration membranes are generally polymer separation membranes. They can also be made into planar membranes, spiral wound membranes, and other forms. Ultrafiltration membranes are best suited for separating and concentrating solutes in solutions, or separating colloidal suspensions that are difficult to achieve using other separation techniques.


    Ultrafiltration is a widely used method for ultrapure water applications. Its advantages are significant: it can be performed at room temperature, ranging from 5 to 45 degrees Celsius. The filtration process does not require heating, it is sensitive to heat-sensitive substances, and it is highly effective for recovering trace components and concentrating low-concentration solutions.


    There are many types of ultrafiltration devices, with spiral wound, plate, and hollow fiber types being the most common. Spiral wound ultrafiltration devices have a relatively large membrane area and a compact structure. Hollow fiber devices offer the largest membrane area per unit area. These devices are highly efficient, have a small footprint, and possess excellent structural design.
