    While water treated by reverse osmosis has removed most impurities, it still contains trace amounts of ions, falling short of the ultrapure water standard. At this point, purification columns or ion exchange resins come into play. They remove residual cations (such as sodium ions and calcium ions) and anions (such as chloride ions and sulfate ions) in the water through ion exchange. Taking ion exchange resins as an example, cation exchange resins use hydrogen ions (H+) to exchange cations, while anion exchange resins use hydroxide ions (OH-) to exchange anions. Hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions combine to form water, further reducing the ion concentration in the water and achieving a purity level equivalent to Grade I or even ultrapure water. This meets the demands of high-end scientific research, electronic chip manufacturing, and other fields with extremely high water quality requirements.
