Development and Application of EDI Technology—EDI Technology Without Chemical Regeneration Agents

Table of Content [Hide]

Important news for industrial companies producing high-purity water: obtaining high-purity water without the use of chemical regeneration agents is now a reality. Recently developed EDI technology can produce water with extremely high purity, and it also brings a range of other benefits.

EDI Technology Without Chemical Regeneration Agents

The electrodeionization process, known in the water treatment industry as EDI, is not a new concept; in fact, commercial EDI systems have been available for over a decade. Although early EDI systems had lower output and poor reliability, today's EDI can meet the broad water treatment requirements of the industrial sector.

Current RO (reverse osmosis)-EDI systems are revolutionizing water purification methods; however, widespread industrial acceptance of EDI still has a long way to go.

From pharmaceuticals, paper, petrochemicals, and power industries over forty years ago to today's semiconductor industry, water has always been the lifeblood of industry, and it is these sectors that have driven the revolution in ultrapure water treatment technology. Although the basic characteristics required by industrial users, such as less chemical reagents, less wastewater discharge, simple operation and lower operating costs, are basically the same, the original water treatment technology has undergone many changes.
