Maintenance and Care of RO Membrane in Ultrapure Water System Accessories

    Users of ultrapure water systems often encounter maintenance and upkeep issues, with the maintenance of the RO desalination membrane being particularly important. RO water systems, also known as reverse osmosis water systems, primarily utilize reverse osmosis membranes for water desalination. How should this pure water equipment be maintained in daily use?


    Here are some commonly used methods:


    Cleaning the RO Membrane Using Chemical Agents


    1. Enzyme Detergent: Treating the membrane with enzyme detergents is particularly effective against organic contaminants, especially proteins and oils. Cleaning at 50℃-60℃ yields better results. Generally, after 10 days or half a month of operation, clean the membrane once with a 1% enzyme detergent solution under low pressure. Due to the low concentration of the enzyme detergent, a longer soaking time is required.


    2. Citric Acid Solution: Under high or low pressure, continuously or circulately rinse the membrane with a 1%-2% citric acid aqueous solution. This method has a good cleaning effect on Fe(OH)3 contamination. 2. Concentrated brine: Cleaning with concentrated brine is effective for membranes with severe organic contamination. This is because high-concentration brine weakens the interaction between colloids, promoting their aggregation and formation of flocs.


    3. Hydrogen peroxide solution: For example, diluting 0.5L of 30% H2O2 with 12L of deionized water and then cleaning the membrane surface is particularly effective against organic contamination.


    4. Water-soluble emulsion: Very effective for cleaning membranes contaminated with oil and iron oxide. Cleaning time is generally 30-60 minutes.


    Cleaning using physical principles:


    The simplest physical cleaning method is to rinse the membrane with low-pressure, high-flow-rate permeate water for 30 minutes. This can restore some of the membrane's permeability, but over time, the permeability will still decrease. Alternatively, a mixture of water and air can be used to rinse the membrane surface under low pressure for 15 minutes. This method is effective for cleaning membranes initially contaminated with organic matter.
