How Should Instrument and Meter Companies Cope with the Current High Level of Innovation?

Innovation, a buzzword, frequently appears in government work reports and a series of policies promoting the development of the instrumentation industry. As the saying goes, "A skilled craftsman must first sharpen his tools." Instrumentation, as a crucial component of "Made in China 2025" and the "13th Five-Year Plan" for science and technology innovation, is inevitably inseparable from innovation.

With increasingly fierce competition in the instrumentation market, the call for technological and product innovation is growing louder, and instrumentation companies are making innovation their primary task for development. However, some instrumentation companies remain unmoved by the overwhelming "innovation wave," clinging to their immediate, limited interests.

How to innovate and develop? This is a question that instrumentation companies must confront. The key to innovation lies in a shift in the companies' own mindset and its practical implementation. Otherwise, innovation will remain empty rhetoric, not only failing to promote the company's development but also weakening its competitiveness.

In recent years, with my country's increased emphasis on environmental protection and the implementation of various environmental policies, the environmental protection industry has entered a period of rapid development. Consequently, some companies engaged in the production of environmental monitoring instruments have also risen rapidly. Because of the high market demand for instrumentation products, products manufactured using traditional technologies are readily accepted. However, some companies, focused on immediate profits, have neglected technological upgrades, resulting in a simplistic product structure and severe homogenization. Neglecting R&D investment in high-end instruments has led to a loss of international competitiveness for domestic high-end instruments, hindering their ability to support major domestic projects and resulting in lost market share. Therefore, instrumentation companies must recognize the changing market situation, transform their development concepts, and adopt a long-term perspective. Only by making innovation a core principle and belief can they truly nurture their businesses.

The key to innovation for instrumentation companies lies in talent. Currently, China's education system offers few instrumentation-related majors, and there is a lack of corresponding training institutions, leading to a serious problem in talent development and a shortage of instrumentation professionals. Therefore, innovation in instrumentation companies requires corresponding talent development plans, vigorously cultivating innovative talent. Simultaneously, companies must innovate their management systems to create a conducive environment for innovation, allowing talent to focus on their work with confidence.

Currently, a significant portion of the instrumentation products on the market are manufactured using traditional production techniques or by adopting others' technologies, rather than through independent research and development. This not only restricts the development of enterprises but also hinders their research and innovation in new instrumentation technologies. As a technology-intensive industry, the instrumentation industry requires enterprises to closely monitor the current state and trends of domestic and international instrumentation technology development and actively innovate their products in line with their own development. Only by breaking free from the constraints of outdated technologies can instrumentation enterprises better catch up with international development and secure a bright future.

Any product innovation must be market-oriented; market orientation is a necessary prerequisite for innovation. Innovation is not about blindly pursuing cutting-edge high-tech instruments, but about innovating based on market demand. Therefore, any innovation in an instrumentation enterprise's product must be market-driven. If innovation cannot be accepted by the market, its value cannot be truly realized, and it cannot bring profits to the enterprise.

In short, for instrumentation enterprises to survive in fierce competition, they must strengthen their conceptual innovation, technological innovation, and product innovation, among other things. Innovation by instrument and meter enterprises can not only accelerate the development of my country's instrument and meter industry, but also enable more innovative achievements in instrument and meter to serve social production and enhance the international competitiveness of domestically produced instruments and meters.
