Commonly Used Laboratory Equipment Jumps to the Top

In August, the types of instruments procured were diverse, covering over a thousand categories. Seven of the top 10 categories in August remained popular in July. Analytical instruments and commonly used laboratory equipment each occupied 5 spots on the August list.

Most of the procured instruments were not limited by country of origin, but there was a clear requirement for a 28% domestic content and 5% imports, showing little fluctuation compared to July. With supportive equipment upgrade policies, demand for domestically produced instruments is gradually stabilizing. Manufacturers need to consider how to stand out to disrupt the balance and create a new surge in demand.

Large-scale equipment upgrades continued throughout August, with customs offices in multiple regions announcing numerous instrument procurement intentions totaling over 100 million yuan. These include advanced instruments such as ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) triple quadrupole mass spectrometers, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers (ICP-MS), liquid chromatographs, and fluorescence PCR instruments. Although it was during the summer vacation, some universities continued their efforts. Overall, equipment upgrades for universities are expected to take place from the second half of this year to the first half of next year, with universities making faster progress initiating equipment procurement processes. Large-scale equipment procurement is expected to begin primarily next year.

In addition to large-scale equipment upgrades, the high-quality development plan for rural water supply became a hot topic in August. Currently, more than 20 provinces and cities have issued relevant plans, which include numerous instrument procurement opportunities. Shanxi invested 49 billion yuan to add 64 water quality testing laboratories; Anhui purchased 2,132 sets of online water quality monitoring equipment for water plants and invested 176 million yuan to build and renovate 28 county-level rural water supply quality testing centers; Guizhou centrally stockpiled rapid water quality testing equipment, improved testing systems, and equipped itself with testing personnel and equipment, enabling it to test 43 routine indicators; Zhejiang invested a total of 28.316 billion yuan to add 4,904 sets of water purification and disinfection equipment and 2,441 new online monitoring water plants (stations); Beijing will focus on solving water quality problems such as microorganisms and nitrates over the next three years; Sichuan invested approximately 78.5 billion yuan in a planned construction and expansion project totaling 1,023 sites…
