Chinese Academy of Sciences Supports International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Initiatives to Revitalize the Domestic Scientific Instrument Industry

On March 28, 2015, authorized by the State Council, the National Development and Reform Commission and two other ministries jointly released the "Vision and Actions on Jointly Building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road," officially launching the "Belt and Road" initiative and creating a new pattern of all-round opening up for my country. Simultaneously, the "Belt and Road" construction, with connectivity as its main content and common development as its strategic goal, has opened up new paths for complementary advantages and open development among participating countries and regions. Implementing this strategy will greatly promote the development of science and technology in participating countries and regions, and also open a window of opportunity for extensive international scientific and technological cooperation. As a national strategic scientific and technological force, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is committed to meeting the needs of scientific and technological innovation, industrial restructuring, and expanding national strategic development space. By fully leveraging its advantages in international scientific and technological cooperation, CAS provides scientific and technological guarantees and support services for the implementation of the "Belt and Road" strategy, while simultaneously driving the innovation capacity building of participating countries, improving their scientific and technological levels, and injecting scientific and technological content into the "Belt and Road" strategy. This is the inescapable responsibility of the vast number of scientific and technological workers at CAS, and also the fundamental way to practice CAS's mission of "reform and innovation, serving the country, and benefiting the people." In order to support the implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative and make the most of science and technology to serve the construction of the new Silk Road, the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched the "Chinese Academy of Sciences Belt and Road International Science and Technology Cooperation Action Plan" in early 2016.
