Why Is Bamboo Charcoal Cheaper Than Activated Carbon in Water Treatment Materials?

Table of Content [Hide]

Differences between Activated Carbon and Bamboo Charcoal

    1. Unactivated bamboo charcoal is not activated carbon; many sellers of bamboo charcoal claim theirs is activated carbon, which is deceiving consumers!

    2. Bamboo charcoal has an iodine adsorption value of 350-600 mg/g and a surface area of 300 m²/g per gram; activated carbon has an iodine adsorption value of over 900 mg/g and a surface area of 3000 m²/g per gram; unactivated bamboo charcoal is not activated carbon.

    3. Activated carbon is divided into: coal-based charcoal, wood-based charcoal, and coconut shell activated carbon, among which southern coconut shell activated carbon is the most effective. Unactivated bamboo charcoal, coal-based columnar charcoal, and bulk activated carbon with low adsorption values have poor performance.

    4. Bamboo charcoal is mostly produced in Zhejiang and other areas rich in bamboo resources, and its price is around 3,000 yuan per ton; activated carbon requires a complex production process, including activation, resulting in higher raw material costs, among other factors.

    5. Ordinary coconut shell activated carbon generally costs around 10,000 yuan per ton; high-grade activated carbon with high adsorption values is even more expensive, costing tens or hundreds of thousands of yuan per ton! The price of activated carbon mainly depends on its parameters; not all activated carbon is the same!
