How to Protect Membrane Elements During Long-Term Shutdown?

Table of Content [Hide]

    The long-term shutdown protection method applies to reverse osmosis systems that have been shut down for more than 30 days, with the membrane elements still installed in the pressure vessel. The specific steps are as follows:

    a) Clean the membrane elements in the system;

    b) Prepare a disinfectant solution using reverse osmosis product water and flush the reverse osmosis system with the solution. For information on the selection of disinfectant and the preparation method of the disinfectant solution, please refer to the relevant technical documents of the membrane company or contact the local representative office of the membrane company for relevant technical advice;

    c) After filling the reverse osmosis system with the disinfectant solution, close the relevant valves to retain the disinfectant solution in the system. At this time, ensure the system is completely filled;

    d) If the system temperature is below 27°C, repeat the first two steps with a new disinfectant solution every 30 days. If the system temperature is above 27°C, replace the protective solution (disinfectant solution) every 15 days;

    e) Before restarting the reverse osmosis system, flush the system with low-pressure feed water for 1 hour, and then flush the system with high-pressure feed water for 5-10 minutes. Whether flushing with low or high pressure, the system's product water discharge valves should be fully open. Before restoring the system to normal operation, check and confirm that the product water does not contain any bactericides.
